Katie Scarlett (Site Bouncer Wanna Be) O., Mar 13, 2009, 12:23PM EDTThank you. Yes that looks like the critter that was ruining my fruit last year. I remember the orange coloring on the body of the female and she was hovering all over the fruit where I saw the lumps (eggs). I guess we'll need to spray something. I appreciate this info, it also explains why one tree was affected and the other was not, due to the time of year that the fruit emerges on each of them. Thank you so so much.

Katie Scarlett (Site Bouncer Wanna Be) O., Mar 12, 2009, 7:59AM EDTThe bugs showed up after the fruit was forming on this particular tree that fruits late July/early August and the bugs stayed about 2-3 weeks until they destroyed the fruit. The funny thing is, they didn't really attack the other tree that fruits in June.

Katie Scarlett (Site Bouncer Wanna Be) O., Mar 12, 2009, 6:57AM EDTIt was my peach trees that they attacked. As far as what kind of bug, I had honestly never seen any like that before. They looked like a cross between some type of beetle and wasp. Very determined little guys also, because normally if you try to shoo away a bug, it goes away for a bit, but these guys would just move to another part of the tree. They seemed to be actually laying eggs on the fruit, as some peaches had little round lumps on them.

Katie Scarlett (Site Bouncer Wanna Be) O., Mar 10, 2009, 1:58PM EDTI have a question for you, and perhaps an idea for an article.
We have fruit growing in our yard, and last year some strange looking bugs took to attacking the fruit of one of the trees to the point that they almost killed the tree. I don't really want to spray chemicals on them, as I'm afraid of someone forgetting and picking something off the tree and eating it and .... well, not good. Any suggestions? -
